Bokken Katalox 40 inch Standard

This is a 40″ solid Katalox bokken. It weighs 1.61 lbs and does have cuts on the mune giving it a 11.5″ handle. The bokken is nice and straight. This is the first bokken I have made out of Katalox, and it proved to be quite similar to Lignum Vitae in properties. It was quite difficult to work with because the wood is so hard. Gorgeous wood and this piece in particular has some interesting colors.

[…] Katalox is also called “Mexican Ebony” and is very hard and dense. I like to call it “Poor Man’s Lignum” because it is very similar in qualities to Lignum Vitae, but much more affordable. It is almost as dense if not the same and is actually harder than Lignum. It is slightly lighter than Lignum, and is more readily available and as a result is more affordable.
